What Is a Forestry Water Tanker Truck?

A forestry water tanker truck is a specialized vehicle-mounted water tank system designed for rapid response to wildfires in forested and mountainous terrains. Built on 4x4 or 6x6 drive chassis, these vehicles — also known as firefighting tankers — can navigate rough, unpaved roads with ease. Teknik Tanker has been manufacturing forestry-type water tankers for the General Directorate of Forestry and municipalities since 1977.

Technical Specifications

Forestry water tankers feature powerful engines for rough terrain, capable of climbing gradients up to 60% and traversing 30% side slopes. Water carrying capacity ranges from 5 to 12 tons. Tanks are manufactured from AISI 304L/316L stainless steel or ST-37/ST-52 sheet steel with epoxy anti-corrosion internal coating.

Pump and Response System

Forestry tankers feature a dual-pressure pump system: high-pressure stage delivers 250 L/min at 40 bar, low-pressure stage provides 1,500–3,000 L/min at 8–10 bar. PTO-driven pumps via split shaft transmission include vacuum-assisted automatic priming for direct water intake from rivers, lakes, and fire hydrants.

Vehicles carry a minimum of 200 meters of three different hose types with connecting adapters. Quick-response lance, foam tank, and hose reel are standard equipment.

Safety and Protection Equipment

To ensure crew safety during wildfires, vehicles feature a heat-resistant external protective shell. Self-recovery winch, cable system, and floodlights are provided as standard. An electro-pneumatic control panel in the driver's cab manages all water outlets (front, rear, side) from within the cabin.

Forestry vs Municipal Water Tanker Differences

While municipal water tankers use 2WD chassis, forestry types require 4x4 or 6x6 drive systems. Forestry vehicles feature stronger suspension, larger wheels, and off-road tires. The ability to traverse ditches and independent movement between chassis and water tank are key technical differences from municipal types.
